Maha Shivaratri.

A shift in cosmic energy happens on this day that is celebrated in India for ages. Shiva is the Adi Deva; the first personality who provided the right knowledge and provided a structure to society. The Maha Shivaratri celebrates his marriage to Maa Parvati and also his Tandava dance; the dance of creation, preservation, and destruction.

For the devotees of MahaSambhuti Chakradhar, there is no ambiguity about the existence of Lord Shiva. During a gathering that I was fortunate to attend, he very casually remarked, "He who was Shiva, He who was Krishna, has now come as Chakradhar." But, he indicated, the role of Chakradhar that has dawned during the end of Kali Yuga is vastly different, and is distinct from that of Shiva and Krishna. We will probably know the difference when later, as he himself has indicated, Saints incarnate to write about him.

The devotees are really not interested in his divinity. He was a dear friend, guide, and a family member. He was one of us. He was the most lovable personality that can ever be. He had tens of thousands of devotees and all felt that He loved him or her the most. He was above all differences and calmly reigned amidst the chaos that His arrival caused on earth. It was difficult not to notice that his aura was causing profound changes that appeared like disturbances but was a building factor changing the old into accepting the new.

I could easily know what he was and that surprised him. For me it was difficult to be in his presence and not be over awed. I just enjoyed his company, my eyes never leaving him. He was very gentle, very tough, very small, very big, a simpleton, very complex, very loving, and yet capable of expressing intense anger. He was extremely detached even as he was extremely loving.

These are all the characteristics of MahaSambhuti - the highest level of divinity. He himself had said, "MahaSambhuti is the highest position and the most complex entity possible; you are awarding it to me, and I accept it." Fortunate for me, I was also present on that occasion. He said that because he spied that the usual words Param Brahma Chakradhar on the banner of the occasion was replaced by the words, MahaSambhuti Chakradhar. He became extremely serious and his total demeanor changed when He uttered these words. The tense atmosphere was felt by all.

Once I was standing on the doorway of the pandal (temporary hall/ tent) that was created to celebrate his birthday to welcome him. He arrived and entered. I was thoroughly unsettled as I distinctly felt that a huge mountain had passed by me. I kept the feeling to myself but later confided to the seniors. They said they too had that experience.

How will the MahaSambhuti energy play out? MahaSambhuti himself was troubled by the destructive aspect of His task. It unsettled him when he sometimes broached the subject. I have seen him becoming quiet and go into a meditative stance. Once He had confided in me, "All those who have reached me feel that they will survive. But what is coming is very powerful. All have to be ready to face the inevitable". I could sense the extreme concern and the sadness behind this utterance. He knew but felt it inappropriate to inform his followers that terrible destruction was ahead. He liked to see people happy and energetically going about their work; destruction was something that he reluctantly resorted to when the time came.

I only pray that the ending be good.

  • ·      Let the peace that is characteristic of the natural world reign again
  • ·      Let the silence that is characteristic of the natural world reign again
  • ·      Let the simplicity that is characteristic of human beings reign again
  • ·      Let life again be meaningful and full of purpose
  • ·      May the divinity that is inherent within everything break through and manifest again.

Happy Maha Shivaratri.

Happy MahaSambhuti Diwas.
