The Microbiome & Universal Happiness
Studies on the microbiome have turned all concepts of modern medicine on its head. 400 trillion inhabitants(bacteria, protozoa, fungi, archaea, viruses) in our body (57% of our body's total cell count) not only decides on physical but also emotional and mental health.
We have 20,000 genes that maybe decide our structure. But the microbiome contributes 20 million microbial genes that clearly defines our state of health.
Microbes are not just inhabiting our bodies but also swimming in our surroundings and we are constantly sharing them with other humans, animals, food, plants, and soil. So, hey guys we are all connected at the microbiome level.
As per what I read on the subject almost every day; the major illnesses we suffer from arise from a disturbed microbiome. What adversely affects the microbiome? Simply put, chemicals. Any non natural thing you put into your skin or body will not be compatible with you.
No wonder people residing outside our civilization and in rural areas have a richer microbiome. The further you recede into forests, the more microbes you gain. And yes, the more the variety the healthier and more resilient you are. The more the variety and balance, the calmer and saner you become.
And the ultimate. You are happy only if the world around you is happy and healthy! This is exactly why the Upanishadic prayer, "Sarve bhabantu sukhina, Sarve santu niramaya, Sarve bhadrani pashyantu, Ma kaschit dukha bhag bhabet, Om Shanti, Shanti, Shantihi" was a part of our daily routine.
May all be prosperous and happy, May all be free from illness, May all see what is spiritually uplifting, May no one suffer, Om peace, peace, peace.
