Ayurveda vs Allopathy: Adopting holistic sciences would have saved the planet from destruction
When
we compare holistic systems with allopathy, certain things must be kept in mind.
There
is the aura of knowledge and expertise associated with allopathy that fascinates
people and make it their first choice.
But
what if we really compare the two?
Naturopathy
and ayurveda follow the basic objectives of a health system;
- Keeping the healthy at the peak of health
- Guiding the unhealthy towards health
- Curing the sick
- Empowering the person on the knowledge of health
Allopathy
believes that it is natural for the body to fall sick, cures are not possible,
and disease management is the only thing that is to be attempted. It is not
willing to admit otherwise.
Ayurveda
points out;
- The body is a dynamic biological entity
- The role of the mind is important
- There are natural laws that ought to be followed
- The environment can positively or negatively affect a person
- The negative direction of the forces that affects the body and mind is called vikruti
- Illnesses can be resolved by identifying and resolving the vikruti
- Cures are about resolving the illness in total to revert the body to its orginal that existed before the disease
- The body heals itself. The right conditions have to be provided
Allopathy
declares;
- Germs and viruses cause disease
- Chemical imbalances cause disease
- With age chronic disease is inevitable
- Disease management allows the person to live with medication and supervision
- Health comes from the medical system and its efforts. All should submit to it without questioning.
Naturopathy
and ayurveda empower the public to stay healthy with transparent and easy to do
instructions. Knowledge of food therapeutics, kitchen/ garden remedies,
lifestyle, and protection from environment is provided to all.
These
are the basics that people need.
To
say ayurveda begins and ends with the Vata Pitta and Kapha theories is wrong.
Ayurveda is much more than that. Healers from all over the world attended
Indian universities to learn the various aspects of healing. They studied for
years.
While
India lost the knowledge due to book burning the various holistic treatment
modalities being practiced globally reflect what was taught here. Energy
healing, acupressure and acupuncture, psychological and spiritual healing etc
points towards the diversity that students studied in the Universities.
In
ayurveda vaidya's were mostly engaged by kings who fell sick due to stressful
living and also for the armies who were injured in battles.
Hospitals
existed to attend to injuries and reptile/ animal bites, and for surgery.
Mostly
village vaidyas, health volunteers, and family members took care of the sick.
Allopaths
are totally body centric, they consider the body and mind to be separate
entities, declare that the energy body and the forces that play on it to be
superstition, and depend primarily on medications and physical interventions
for treatment.
If
the natural laws are followed and people are empowered, disease complications
and organ damage are very rare. The body knows how to protect itself. It is
built that way. Deep seated damage is hugely resisted by the body. It is
rightly said that it takes a misguided physician to cause chronic disease.
Allopaths
claim mastery over complications and organ damage for which their own system is
responsible; caused by suppression of acute ailments, use of vaccines,
antibiotics, steroids, and chemicals, and misdirected surgery. They also do not
seek cures but depend on medication/ intervention based disease management.
They say complications are inevitable.
If
the population can be kept healthy, specialized knowledge is required for a
miniscule number of people.
It
is wrong to say that the ayurveds did not have that ability. Archives point
towards dealing with serious cases and also surgery in various forms. According
to modern surgeons the surgery kit of the ayurveds can deal with all kinds of
surgery.
Ayurveda
has various types of approach to deal with different cases. The allopathic
(drugging to manage disease) are recommended for cases that are considered
incurable, for the elderly, and for the patient in death bed.
Homeopathic
principles were also observed and commented upon; like cures like and even the
potency of drugs. It was pointed out by ayurveds that the more the herb
preparation was finely ground, the more the increase in potency of the
preparation. These concepts were also discovered by Hahnemann and homeopathy
was born.
It
was for these characteristics that the best of allopathic doctors of India (who
were known as public health doctors) wanted ayurveda and associated holistic
systems to be adopted as the health system of India. They were horrified by the
practice of vaccination as they observed the horrendous adverse effects and the
myriad diseases caused by them.
The
holistic doctors are also acutely aware of environmental impacts of health, the
dangers of poisoning the food chain, the dangers of chemicalization of society,
the dangers of addictions etc. By dessiminating the knowledge among the public
the present lopsided development model could have been opposed and prevented.
What
kind of society would have developed if the holistic systems were adopted by
independent India?
- There would not be epidemics of the chronic degenerative diseases and disability that are commonplace today
- The focus on development of the human being would have established a humanity centric society
- Healthy people would have contributed to build a healthy society
- Family bonding would have continued with family members helping each other
- The rich tradition of healing knowledge would have continued in families
- Crime and conflicts would have been under control as the holistic systems focus on physical, mental, and emotional health
- Expenses on account of treating diseases would be zero. People would know how to treat themselves. Moreover holistic sciences are inexpensive and the State can easily bear the costs
- We have witnessed the leaders of society practice holistic systems and provide services to the people for free. That would have continued
- The holistic symptoms are dependent on vegetation. Conservation and preservation of nature would have been a top priority
- The tribal and forested populations would be continued to be respected for their knowledge and resources
- Elders would continue to be respected for their knowledge and experience
- Addictions would be minimal
- Ladies would be treated with respect as the poisoning of the mind would not have taken place, and discipline and the resultant mental peace would have prevented criminal attitudes and tendencies
- Food would be organically grown. Processed and junk food would not have been tolerated
- Nature based life would have prevented the extreme pollution and chaos that we witness today
- Global adoption of these sciences would have saved the planet from the torture it has undergone
Don't
believe it? Just compare the life of our ancestors with that of today.
It
is known that the pharma industry is deeply connected to the pesticide and
chemical industries. Oil Barron Rockefeller the founder of modern medicine
combined with I G Farben (the mother of all chemicals, being composed of Bayer,
Hoechst, and BASF). It therefore played a big role in the adoption of such
products by focusing on the germ and virus theory rather than on the dangers
from toxicity. Without the pharma cover the destructive industries would never
have prospered.
The
comparison between holistic and allopathic systems must be seen in the light of
above and many other reasons as well.
